Reasons to Shroom
I’ve been on shrooms for about two years and drinking them for almost one. Confused? I’m talking about adaptogenic mushrooms people! I’ve been raving about mushroom coffee and adaptogens for quit some time. In this post I’ve answered your questions from Instagram and I hope this clears up the mystery on drinking mushrooms!
Does it taste like mushrooms?
So this is the question I probably get the most! NO it absolutely doesn’t taste like mushrooms because adaptogenic and medicinal mushrooms aren’t like the mushrooms we buy in the produce section at the grocery store. Most of the time they’re going to have a more earthy taste and some can be a bit bitter.
Do you drink it because it’s less addictive than regular coffee?
Yes and no. Yes, because since mushroom coffee is a blend, you’re drinking less caffeine. As a whole, I’m less dependent on it and I no longer get the headaches or migraines from having caffeine withdrawal. The ratio I use is 2:1 coffee to Sun Potion Chaga in tablespoons when I make it myself. If i’m using the Mushroom Coffee blend from Four Sigmatic it’s a blend of coffee, chaga, and lionsmane with about as much caffeine as one cup of decaf coffee would have. I personally like having the preblended coffee from Four Sigmatic vs making my own only because I trust the formula and ratio of Four Sigmatic that my own concoction and I enjoy having less caffeine.
No, because that’s not the ONLY reason behind the WHY of why I drink it. I truly believe in the power of adaptogens. Incorporating adaptogens into my morning ritual is a surefire way for me to know I’m always getting my adaptogens in.
How did you find out about mushroom coffee?
I had been drinking chaga tea for awhile and using adaptogens for the last couple of years now but I didn’t start having mushroom coffee on the regular and making it until Four Sigmatic came out with their Mushroom Coffee blends!
What is Chaga?
Chaga is what you would call a functional mushroom. Known as King Healer for it’s immune balancing properties, chaga is a black and goldish mushroom that grows in colder climates of the northern hemisphere on birch tress and honestly looks like bark more than it resembles your typical mushroom. It’s a a nutrient dense superfood packed with antioxidants to support your skin and immune system. I’ve actually written a very detailed post on Chaga that you can check out here!
Is there sugar in it?
No, unless you add sweeteners post brew. When I use Sun Potion Chaga or Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee with Chaga and Lionsmane there’s actually 0g of sugar and 0g of carbs so it’s great for making a bullet broof coffee which is my go to!
What are your favorite brands?
Well, if you haven’t been able to tell by now by watching my stories on Instagram of reading this post, my favorite adaptogens to grap are Sun Potion and FourSigmatic. It matters where you purchase these magic mushrooms. Look for wild harvested and trusted brands like Foursigmatics, Sun Potion, and Moon Juice.
I hope that I’ve demystified the subject of mushroom coffee by answering some of these questions and hopefully you’re a little more inclined to try some shrooms ;)
