Turmeric & My Golden Milk Recipe


What IS turmeric?  Turmeric comes from the curcuma longa plant that grows in India and other south east Asian countries and the dried root of the curcuma longa is ground down and we are left with this beautiful deep yellow turmeric powder. I think that turmeric is one of those magic things that nature has gifted us just like Chaga and reishi and drinking Golden Milk is an easy way to reap some of the benefits.

So what are the benefits? 

Since turmeric contains curcumin it can provide all natural pain relief but mostly what it’s known for is it’s ability to fight inflammation. As American’s we are RIDDLED with inflammed cells on the reg and inflammation is the root of most diseases: cancers, chronic pain, Alzheimer’s just to name a few. It can also do some wonder for your skin but I’ll save that for later! Basically, if you’re living with a disease or illness that is caused by excess inflammation you should just get your hands on this stuff.


What is Golden Milk? I get it — sounds weird. 


Golden Milk or Turmeric Tea is a nice soothing elixir that helps support digestion, immune function, liver function, and helps with anti-inflammatory symptoms. It’s pretty simple to make — make sure to add pepper to activate the turmeric, some kind of fat so that it can be absorbed into the body(I use coconut butter), and heat for maximum antioxidant power. **I pour mine over ice**

Here’s a basic Golden Milk recipe. Everything can be adjusted to your own liking. I personally like mine with a little kick so if you’re new to this spice maybe add a little more honey and maybe a little less turmeric and or ginger. 

Easy Golden Milk Recipe

  • 2 c almond milk or coconut milk

  • 1 tsp of turmeric *I use 1.4 tsp*

  • 1 – 2 tsp of coconut butter or coconut oil(1 tsp if using oil)

  • 1/2 – 3/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

  • pinch of black ground pepper

  • pinch of cayenne pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp of Honey to taste

1. Blend or whisk, if whisky by hand this can be done while on the stove

2.  Warm on stove but make sure you don’t boil or overheat because it WILL burn and taste bitter

3. Drink and enjoy! 

I like to pour mine over ice after heating especially since it’s summer and I’ll usually just let the rest cool and put it in a glass jar in the fridge to enjoy later.
